Marshall Wharf Brewing Co to visit Bowmore Distillery in Scotland

Marshall Wharf Brewing Co’s owner David Carlson and brewer Dan McGovern travel to Scotland in two weeks to secure Scotch whisky casks in which they will age some of their popular craft beers.

The trip follows an introduction from Singlemalt TV’s founder and Maine resident Rob Draper, who put the Marshall Wharf team in touch with Director of Operations and Chief Blender at Bowmore, Mr Andrew Rankin. Draper had worked with Bowmore and Rankin during filming numerous video segments for the globally successful Singlemalt TV whisky channel on the web. They had also traveled, with whisky expert, and Singlemalt TV on camera presenter, Charlie MacLean to Kentucky, Jerez (Spain) and SCotland producing a one hour dcoumentary (and 20 video segments) on the process of wood and cask selection for the maturation of Scotch whisky.

During the upcoming trip Charlie MacLean will be sampling some of the Marshall Wharf brews and making suggestions on cask selection and potential flavour profiles of the beers aged in those casks.

On Islay, Dave and Dan will visit Bowmore where they meet up with Andrew Rankin and two former Fuller’s (UK) brewers (now working for Bowmore). The group will sample the Marshall Wharf beers along with suggested whiskies, direct from the casks in the famed Bowmore vaults, to analyze whisky and beer profiles and make their suggestions on the best casks for aging the Marshall Wharf Beers.

Topping it all off will be a visit to the home of Martine Nouet, Singlemalt TV’s whisky chef, Editor of Whisky Magazine and world renowned whisky commentator on pairing food and alcohol. Martine worked for many years with Beer legend, Michael Jackson (“The Beer Hunter”), teaming with him pairing beers and foods from around the globe. Martine will sample the Marshall Wharf beers then prepare a three course meal pairing the flavor profiles of the beers with local produce. Luckily the local produce on Islay is very similar, especially in seafood, to that of Maine so the pairings should translate perfectly.

The entire trip will be filmed and edited into multiple segments to be screened on CraftBeerMaine.com and daily video reports will be fed back to the IS via Facebook and Twitter to keep Marshall Wharf fans up to date with events in Scotland.

On the final day, June 8th, we will stream a live webcast from Charlie MacLean’s office in Edinburgh during which viewers will be able to chat with Dave, Dan and Charlie. The webcast will be presented on a large screen for customers at Marshall Wharf.
